When a homeowner has spent hard-earned money on creating the green lawn they desire, it’s a shame to see that money go to waste when weeds take over and crowd out the grass seed that was laid. Our educated team provides a custom plan that is specific to your lawn, and then we remain consistent in how we care for that beautiful lawn of yours.

We are fast approaching the time when weeds should be on our minds. We’ve talked extensively about grass in the past, but all grasses fall prey to weeds. Where there is green grass, so shall weeds grow.

Some homeowners might wonder what the big deal is with weeds. “As long as it’s green, does it matter?” they might wonder. “How much damage can weeds cause anyway?” (The quick answer? A lot!) Other homeowners want to be proactive with their lawn care, but don’t know when it’s best to attack those weeds. Let’s roll up our sleeves and dig in.

When a homeowner has spent hard-earned money on creating the green lawn they desire, it’s a shame to see that money go to waste when weeds take over and crowd out the grass seed that was laid. Weeds can sometimes lay waste to entire lawns, and often very quickly, leaving a brown or snarled mess in their wake. However, it’s not just enough to tear up weeds or use a simple spray. If you want to deal with your weeds effectively, you must first properly identify the type of weed as well as the best way to deal with them. What homeowner has time for that?

That’s where GreenPro comes in!

Our educated team provides a custom plan that is specific to your lawn, and then we remain consistent in how we care for that beautiful lawn of yours. GreenPro offers a 7-step program that helps eliminate weeds. We love giving homeowners a sense of safety while providing them the opportunity to direct their sacred time to things that matter most rather than focusing on weeds. Leave that to us!

But since we want to make sure our customers and clients are always informed about what goes into their lawn care, we thought we would share the most common weeds we come in contact with and why safe, non-toxic pre-emergent herbicides can be crucial tools for helping you care for and extend the life of your lawn.

For instance, you might be familiar with bluegrass, a common weed in Oklahoma. What makes bluegrass such an evil weed however isn’t the actual plant itself, but the insect that loves to lay eggs in it. That little pesky insect also called the bluegrass weevil, is divisive and can cause major harm to your lawn, especially lawns that are cut and maintained regularly.

Crabgrass is another common weed that runs rampant in lawns. This is especially true in areas where dirt is present, such as garden areas and tree root areas that have been cleared. Thankfully it won’t harm your lawn, but it does look awful come fall.

It’s always helpful to remember that pre-emergents and weed killers should be used twice a year. It’s most helpful to lay weed killers in March and September. To attack weeds aggressively, pre-emergents must be laid down in the spring, when the soil is warming up and the temperature is favored by weeds and can start to germinate. Those spring showers can help your pre-emergent treatment take hold – after all, every seed needs warmth and moisture to grow, right? However, if the weeds were able to still sprout or in some cases withstand the chemicals over the summer, another layer of pre-emergent should be spread in September, right at the end of the season, when the weeds are about to let go of their seeds and set sail in the wind.

Don’t waste any time on letting those weeds overtake your lawn; Call GreenPro today and we’ll work with you to maintain your grass regularly so that lawn of yours keeps looking her best!
